Urban Work Summit Vancouver
A digital Summit agenda that outlines the three-day event schedule.
The Urban Work Summit took place across four major Canadian cities: Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montréal. This project focuses on the three-day event in Vancouver, where participants engaged in meaningful discussions aimed at addressing the skills gap for youth and youth employment. This digital schedule was designed to inform attendees about the day-to-day schedule, outlining specific workshops, speakers, and break periods.
As part of the Urban Work Summit, I proposed the development of a digital schedule, leveraging the design skills I acquired during my studies for my degree. This project not only benefitted my professional growth but also my colleagues, who I recruited to help code and develop alongside me. I recognized this as a valuable opportunity to align our project with the interests and values of our organization.
By opting for a digital format for the Summit agenda, we significantly reduced waste by not printing brochures and pamphlets that would likely be discarded post-event. This approach not only minimized our environmental impact but also allowed for budget flexibility, allowing us to reallocate printing costs to other essential areas of the Summit.
In our planning process, we knew that we had time to fully flesh out my proposed idea but we also knew that we had other responsibilities that would take time away from the digital agenda. We utilized Google Material Design to cut out all the unnecessary legwork that could create issues with our tightly planned timeline; it would speed up the wireframing and prototyping as well as the coding process.

Overall, this was a challenging yet rewarding experience to learn about scope and planning more than creating the final product. I am still very proud of getting this off the ground with a two-man team, but that was not without sacrificing small design details for the sake of making the final deadline.
